Six Sigma & Quality Planning

Six Sigma is a powerful continuous improvement and quality management system that helps organizations realize significant operational improvements and financial benefits by streamlining operations, improving quality, and eliminating defects. Six Sigma is an integrated, disciplined, proven approach for improving measurable results for any type of business and organization.

1) Six Sigma is fact-based, data-driven decision making.
2) Six Sigma is the way to take the collective intelligence and abilities of our employees, dealers and suppliers, and channel them to our highest priorities to satisfy all our stakeholders.
3) Six Sigma uses a set of strategies, statistics and methods to improve the processes we use to do everything from designing to manufacturing a product; from marketing products and services to providing business information to our internal and external customers.
4) By applying the rigorous practices of Six Sigma we can achieve breakthroughs in financial and quality performance that would otherwise be unattainable.

Six Sigma methodology is also used in many Business Process Management initiatives these days. These Business Process Management initiatives are not necessarily related to manufacturing. Many of the BPM's that use Six Sigma in today's world include call centers, customer support, supply chain management and project management.

To be successful, a Six Sigma initiative requires active support at all levels of the organization, from senior management to Six Sigma project team members. However, the processes associated with managing Six Sigma can be complex and resource-intensive. Six Sigma teams are often challenged when trying to manage multiple projects, report results, and share best practices. In addition, executives often lack access to high-level views that show how Six Sigma initiatives are performing overall or the financial impact they are having. Gurukul provides the exact solution that helps organizations manage their Six Sigma projects while providing a clear picture of project status and results can significantly increase the impact and acceptance of Six Sigma initiatives.

Six Sigma within our client's organization is driven with passion from the CEO and Senior Management Team (SMT) level. All these leaders in the organization are trained on specific Six Sigma trainings and thereby commitment of time, resources and project leadership is charted out. The company’s Six Sigma strategic plan is organized into seven strategic outcomes:
1) People - Internal & External
2) Physical Asset - Infrastructure & Environment
3) Planning - Medium & Short term
4) Product - Products & Services
5) Process - Control & Capability
6) Practice - Governance & Benchmarking
7) Price - Expense & Earning
Six Sigma is a data-driven, high-performance approach to analyzing the causes of business problems and resolving them. The goal of Six Sigma is to continue the transformation of the culture as it continually strives for break-through process improvement and quality products that perform at Six Sigma levels. Six Sigma level is defined as 3.4 defects per million, or 99.9997% perfection.

Initially, selected individuals from throughout the organization are trained to become Six Sigma Black Belts. A Black Belt, certified in Six Sigma methodology, is someone who works fulltime on projects to improve productivity and customer satisfaction. The individuals selected usually are key managers and leaders from all areas of the business — including Operations, Customer Service, Product Development, Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, Training, and Finance.
These Black Belts in turn train Green Belts, and Yellow Belts on Six Sigma project methodologies and relevant tools. Once the Six Sigma training, project support and leadership are in place, the Six Sigma Project Teams are formed and specific projects with targeted outcomes are assigned to them with a time limit.
The Six Sigma Project Teams are assisted in preparing the thorough project plan and schedule along with periodic Toll Gate review. Once the project planning is over, the field / gemba work is started.
Gurukul Catalysts initially spoon feed the teams in order to build the confidence and then slowly targets the self reliance of the teams. Once the involved team members are confident enough, the periodic reviews / counseling sessions are taken in order to correct, improve and enhance the results achieved.
Gurukul Catalysts help in final presentation of the project team and thereby review the overall culture evolution. Then the team is given another assignment. This cycle is repeated till the Six Sigma culture is deep rooted in the organization. Thereafter the counseling role is handed over to Master Black Belt / Champion designated member of the organization. Henceforth the Gurukul Catalysts work as the review / advisory role in order to continuously improve / build the Six Sigma culture in the positive direction.
Overall , Gurukul Catalysts help through AIM (Assess, Improve, Maintain) methodology to optimally reap the benefits of the Six Sigma culture in our Client's Organization.
